  • The community stepped up to help cats and dogs that were displaced amid the war in Ukraine.
  • One day, a volunteer saw a group of dogs lining up patiently for their turn at a pet feeding station.
  • More and more kind-hearted people have donated food or even offered to house pets.

Nate Mook was walking down the street of Kramatorsk, Ukraine, when he saw something surreal. A group of dogs was in a perfectly distanced line seeming to wait their turn for something.

Nate shared a photo with the caption, “I’ve never seen anything like this.”

It turns out that Nate had helped install a pet feeding station the day before, and the dogs were patiently waiting for their turn!

The war in Ukraine has displaced over five million people to neighboring countries and over seven million inside the country, according to The BBC. Pets were also displaced as they lost their homes.

Nate shared, “We’ve seen a huge need for support for the animals. Dogs and cats who used to have homes.”

Despite the continuous outpour of support, the need for resources is ever-growing.

Nate shared, “Food need is huge in liberated areas, but also for vets & evacuating pets from the frontline. Volunteers are risking their lives rescuing cats & dogs.”

Nate is just one of the many brave volunteers who offered to support Ukrainian pets in need of housing, food, and other basic needs.

He has since installed pet feeding stations and delivered about 500 pounds of donated pet food to an animal sanctuary in Sviatohirsk. The sanctuary in the newly liberated city has helped house displaced pets.

Thanks to the dedicated community in and outside of Ukraine, human and animal residents alike are seeing more glimpses of hope and positivity.

Simply seeing displaced dogs lining up for food makes them happy and thankful that someone keeps looking out for them.
