Dog Unrecognizable under 15 Pounds of Matted Fur Transforms After Rescue

• The volunteers at Heart of LCAC were surprised to see a ball of matted fur arrive — the dog was completely unrecognizable!
• It took medical professionals and groomers four hours to remove 15 pounds of fur off the poor pup.
• Pat the Mat was so happy with his newfound mobility and freedom that he transformed into a sweet ball of energy!

Pat was unrecognizable when he first arrived at the Clinton Animal Hospital. Betty Burns and her fellow Heart of LCAC volunteers only saw a ball of matted fur!

The poor dog was found wandering around a yard in Clinton, South Carolina.

Betty said that they wouldn’t have been able to identify which end was which until they heard him panting. His eyes, nose, and mouth were all hidden from view!

Medical professionals and groomers had to sedate Pat so they could free him from his furry prison.

Four hours later, around 15 pounds of hair were shed.

The groomers believe that Pat may have been kept in a crate for about a year for him to get to this state.

Now that the excess hair has been shorn off, the pup, whom the rescuers named Pat the Mat, is now recognizable.

The dog turned out to be a 9-year-old cocker spaniel mix with a long body and short legs.

Pat immediately felt refreshed after his much-needed haircut. He was so happy that he started running around! He could easily move around again and play with toys.

Pat may have had a traumatic past. Fortunately, it didn’t seem to give him trust issues.

Betty said that he’s a sweet dog who loves getting around and meeting people at the clinic.

The senior pup now has a foster family with Too Broke Girls Dog Rescue.

“He’s just a happy little guy,” Betty shared.
