First Woman Who Kicked in Pro Football Gets Her Story Told
Quick Smiles:
- Documentary honors the very first woman to play professional football
- Pat Palinkas’ 1970 kickoff moment inspires a new generation
- Filmmakers celebrate her courage and lasting legacy of joy
Long before the roar of packed stadiums, a determined elementary-school teacher named Pat Palinkas stepped onto the turf for the Orlando Panthers in 1970 and became the first woman ever to play professional football.
Her groundbreaking appearance as a placekicker not only shattered barriers but also planted seeds of possibility for every girl who dreams of taking the field.
The new documentary short “Panther Pat,” produced under the JoyDrops banner, brings this nearly forgotten chapter of sports history back into the warm glow of celebration.
Pat’s story is told through archival footage, heartfelt interviews, and the joyful voices of those who witnessed her courage firsthand.
“She just walked out there like she belonged—and she did,” one teammate recalls in the film.
Another former Panther adds, “Pat reminded us that the game is bigger than any one of us.”
By spotlighting Pat’s achievement, the filmmakers hope to remind audiences that trailblazers often walk quietly until someone chooses to turn the light back on.
