High School Science Teacher Discovers First-Ever T. Rex Trackway

During a routine fossil expedition, a high school science teacher uncovered something that had never been documented before: an intact T. rex trackway.

The discovery happened while the teacher was leading students on a field study in Montana’s badlands, an area long known for its rich dinosaur history.

“I just happened to look down at the right moment and realized what I was seeing,” the teacher later recalled. “It felt like the ground itself was telling a story that had been waiting millions of years to be read.”

Unlike isolated footprints, a trackway preserves a continuous path, revealing stride length, speed, and even behavior. This particular set of prints is the first of its kind attributed to Tyrannosaurus rex.

Paleontologists who examined the site confirmed the tracks match the size and spacing expected for a full-grown T. rex, providing new insight into how the iconic predator moved across its ancient landscape.

The students who joined the expedition are now co-authors on the upcoming scientific paper, a rare honor that has left them beaming with pride.
