  • Health care workers have been on the front line since COVID hit the world in 2019.
  • To honor them and appreciate their sacrifices, luxury resort chain Velas Resorts offered all-inclusive vacations to 100 frontliners.
  • Mexican airline Aeromexico joined the initiative and would give away free roundtrip flights for the winners.

Ever since the COVID pandemic happened, health care workers have been on the line, risking their lives so the world could press on.

This has been realized by a luxury resort chain in Mexico, who showed their appreciation with free spa vacations to 100 health care superheroes.

Velas Resorts started their thanksgiving reward with the public having to vote for their favorite frontliner stories. From the more than 300 nominations, 100 were selected to enjoy an all-inclusive vacation of four days and three nights in the luxury resort, with food and drinks prepared by first-class chefs.

The voting period ended on April 30 and the 100 winning heroes were announced last week. Vouchers awarded were for the Velas Vallarta resort in Puerto Vallarta, and in other properties like Los Cabos, Riviera Maya, and Riviera Nayarit.

Dubbed as “Let’s Be Thankful,” the campaign shared some heartwarming and inspiring stories.

One is M. Snider’s — a practitioner nurse and a mother of two daughters, three and five years old — who has willingly worked extra shifts to cover sick colleagues who were infected by the virus.

Carlos Alberto Espinoza Casillas, one of the winners, was said to be wearing a special Batman suit he created himself to give hope to his patients.

Based on the nomination for Dr. Vanessa Hernandez of Monterrey, Mexico, she served as the hospital’s very own “Dr. Fauci,” who’s always “giving clear guidance and directives, administering hundreds of COVID tests, running contact tracing operations and keeping our operation (with 1000 employees) functioning and safe, preserving the well-being and livelihood of our employees.”

It added, “She has worked tirelessly for the last year, even when her husband was hospitalized with COVID. As a frequent visitor to Velas resorts, I know that she would love it and deserves a few days in paradise.”

Another heartfelt story was that of Dr. Yannick Poulin, who has been working in the intensive care unit of the Sherbrooke CHUS Hospital for a year without ever taking a vacation. He has been taking care of patients with severe COVID symptoms, always putting his personal life on the line every single day.

“What Dr. Poulin wanted us to remember is that we must cherish every little thing in life and most of all enjoy it… We would like to thank him publicly for his dedication to our patients here in Canada,” his nomination read.

Mexican airline Aeromexico joined the initiative and would give away free roundtrip flights for the medical worker winners.

This will surely be a lavish treat for the health-worker superheroes, who deserve a breather for all their hard work, resilience, determination and sacrifices ever since COVID hit the globe.
