Husky Helps Rescue Newborn Baby Abandoned in Park

- Hel the husky was taking a walk with her owner, Terry Walsh, when she came upon a pile of blankets containing a newborn human baby.
- As she gently nudged the cloth and woke the baby up, Terry was alerted to the baby’s presence and was able to inform the authorities.
- Officials are now taking care of the baby while searching for his mother.
Hel the husky is now being praised as a heroine after she helped save a newborn baby found abandoned in a British park.
Hel was on a walk with her owner, Terry Walsh, last week when she stumbled upon a pile of blankets hidden under a bush in Birmingham.
“Suddenly I heard this baby cry,” Terry, 64, told Birmingham Live. “I think it was Hel’s gentle nudging and the heat from my husky’s body that woke the baby up.”
Terry said he looked around for someone, and found a woman walking by with her kids. They then informed the authorities.
According to a statement from the West Midlands Police, the baby boy was only about a few hours old. They named the baby George since he was found the day before St. George’s Day.
Terry told Birmingham Live, “I thank the Lord that the baby was alive, that could’ve been a lot worse… I said to my neighbors, heaven sent Hel to rescue [a] newborn baby boy!”
Police are now trying to track down baby George’s mother and have released several photos of George to help find her.
“I am reaching out to George’s mother. You are my primary concern right now, and we really need to make sure you’re okay,” Detective Inspector Neil Hunt said in a sympathetic statement. “I don’t know the circumstances around George’s birth but, as a parent myself, I know exactly how overwhelming becoming a parent can be.”

“We’re ready to offer you any help and support you may need. George is safe and well, and your health and wellbeing is our priority – please be assured that you are not in any trouble,” the inspector continued.
Previously released CCTV footage of a woman spotted near the scene a few minutes before George was found has also been publicly released.
Terry told Birmingham Live that he’s simply thankful the baby was found by Hel, who has a gentle demeanor. He added that baby George might have been in serious danger were he found by “a bigger dog or another dog with a different temperament,” or other wild animals.
