Instant Bond: Two-Year-Old Boy And Shelter Dog Share Same Birth Defect

  • A boy and a dog with the same birth deformity get to meet and it is love at first sight.
  • Both the boy and the dog were born with cleft lips and exhibit the same fighting spirits.
  • The boy’s parents and the shelter are overjoyed at the perfect match.

Born with a cleft lip, 2-year-old Bentley Boyers has already had two surgeries to correct his condition. And his father found the perfect match for him when he went to the local shelter and found a puppy with the same birth defect as his!

You could say that Bentley and the pup at the Jackson County Animal Shelter are kindred souls.

Bentley’s dad had this in mind when he learned of the puppy with a cleft lip and could not help but happily share it with his wife, Ashley. She said, “He Facetimed me. He goes, ‘I think this one has a cleft lip’ and I said ‘get her’! We need her.”

Ashley added, “To see him have something in common with a puppy means a lot ’cause he can grow up and understand that he and his puppy both have something that they can share in common.”

And the photos at the meeting between the puppy and Bentley cuddling and sharing kisses are just proof of the perfect match.

The shelter wrote, “It’s so hard to put into words how meaningful this adoption is to all of us so we are going to let the pictures speak for themselves.”

Animal Services Director Lydia Sattler said that the pup may look different from other normal dogs but it is not slowing her down. They also could not see any future health problems with her. She added, “Her disability is really not holding her back, and as she grows, they’ll be able to see more if there’s any change that has to do with that. But, she’s really doing well.”

Both Bentley and the puppy exhibit the same fighting spirits that anyone could not be happier for the two of them.

We wish you great years together, Bentley and pup!
