Quick Smiles:

  • A beloved Hollywood landmark stays standing thanks to a judge’s ruling
  • Marilyn Monroe’s final residence will continue to inspire future generations
  • Historic preservation triumphs as the iconic home remains protected

Marilyn Monroe remains a beloved Hollywood legend whose influence continues to shine brightly. More than six decades after her passing, efforts to honor her memory keep her spirit alive through the preservation of places that meant the most to her.

In 1962, the timeless star purchased a charming home at 12305 Fifth Helena Drive in Los Angeles, where she spent her final days. Today, that same residence stands as a testament to her enduring legacy.

Current owners Brinah Milstein and Roy Bank had hoped to demolish the property, but their plans faced an important roadblock when a federal judge ruled in favor of preserving this piece of Hollywood history.

U.S. District Judge Percy Anderson dismissed the couple’s latest legal attempt to remove the home’s designation as a Historic-Cultural Monument.

“While we are disappointed by the court’s decision to dismiss, this is not the end of the road,” Dave Breemer, senior attorney at Pacific Legal Foundation, who is representing the couple, told People. “The facts show the significant burden Los Angeles has placed on Milstein and Bank’s property, and we are prepared to continue fighting to protect their property rights on appeal.”

This marks the second time the same judge has upheld the home’s protected status. For now, the residence remains safe from demolition, ensuring that future generations can continue to connect with Marilyn’s remarkable story through this meaningful landmark.
