Quick Smiles:

  • King Charles chooses to stay in the home he’s loved for over 20 years
  • Historic palace opens wider for public to enjoy after massive restoration
  • King stays active and joyful, earning his own martial arts belt recently

In 2017, Buckingham Palace began a $487 million renovation that would take 10 years to complete. When the construction began, many wondered if King Charles would move into the iconic residence with Queen Camilla.

According to the annual Sovereign Grant Report released on June 25, 2026, the king has made a touching choice. Instead of relocating, he will remain in Clarence House, the London residence he’s called home since 2003.

“His Majesty retains huge affection for Buckingham Palace and a deep respect for its role in royal and public life,” the palace shared in a news release.

“It will remain a working home, but we are seeking to widen public access precisely to maximise the national benefit of a publicly-funded building.”

According to Buckingham Palace, King Charles intends that the residence “remains the ceremonial center of Royal life, the primary workplace of the Royal Household and a national heritage asset with increased opportunities for public access.”

King Charles Stays Active and Joyful

King Charles hasn’t had the easiest last few years battling an undisclosed type of cancer. A move from his home, where he’s lived for decades and feels comfortable, may not even be on his radar.

Although he’s been facing health challenges, King Charles remains wonderfully busy and engaged.

He recently took in a morning of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training. “His Majesty watched demonstrations taking place on the mats, met Academy students, presented a black belt to a REORG team member — and received his own white belt!”

“What a privilege to meet the his majesty the King Charles III and talk about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Reorg mission. Very honoured,” someone wrote.

Another person agrees, “This is so wonderful to watch!! My beloved jiu jitsu being recognized by the King!! What a privilege for everyone there at Roger’s Academy.”
