Quick Smiles:

  • Micky Dolenz, 81, is the last surviving member of the iconic Monkees but says his bandmates are always with him in spirit
  • He just dropped a new EP called ‘Timeless’ celebrating 60 years of joyful music that never goes out of style
  • Dolenz continues touring and sharing the music that’s brought happiness to millions — proof you’re never too old to do what you love!

At 81, Micky Dolenz carries on as the final surviving member of the beloved Monkees, but he’s far from alone. His bandmates Davy Jones, Peter Tork, and Mike Nesmith may have passed on, but they’ve left him with a treasure trove of beautiful music and cherished memories.

Micky just released a brand-new EP called “Timeless” on September 4, 2026, and it’s a joyful celebration of six decades of making people smile through song. Speaking about the project, he shared how the title captures both the Monkees’ 60-year legacy and his hope that great music truly never ages.

Timeless refers to the 60 years of The Monkees, of course, but also the idea was these songs would have that kind of timeless feel to them and hopefully not date,” Micky explained.

“The stuff from the ’60s, that jangly guitar stuff especially, hasn’t dated that much. People are coming back around to it all the time, obviously The Beatles being the keystone to much of that. In my mind it always comes down to the material; it did with The Monkees, and that’s what I look for when I do my own things now.”

What’s especially touching is how Micky keeps his bandmates close to his heart every single day. Even though Davy, Peter, and Mike are no longer physically beside him on stage, he feels their presence constantly.

“It’s almost like they’ve never left ’cause I’m with them every night,” Micky said.

“I’m seeing them on the screen. I’m hearing them. People talk about it all the time. The thing I miss the most is just not being able to call somebody and just say hi. We were really like brothers, ultimately … And, like brothers, we fought sometimes, but you can’t go through something like we did and not be that close to one another.”

His dedication to keeping the Monkees’ spirit alive is truly inspiring. What a beautiful reminder that the people we love never truly leave us — they live on in our hearts, our memories, and the music that brought us together.
