A Florida woman in Miami spotted a double rainbow outside her window and grabbed her phone to record it.

To her amazement, lightning struck right through the rainbow, creating an incredibly rare and beautiful sight.

A rainbow is caused by sunlight and atmospheric conditions. Light enters a water droplet, slowing down and bending as it goes from air to denser water. The light reflects off the inside of the droplet, separating into its component wavelengths—or colors. When light exits the droplet, it makes a rainbow.

The NESDIS explains.

We get lightning when ice crystals high in a thunderstorm flow up and down in the turbulent air.

This causes them to crash into each other, where small negatively charged particles called electrons are knocked off some ice crystals and added to other ice crystals as they crash past each other.

This separates the positive (+) and negative (-) charges of the cloud, the Climate Adaptation Center adds.
