A Massachusetts man who was recovering from an open heart surgery won $1 million from a lottery scratch card.

Sixty-two-year-old Alexander McLeish received a get-well card from his friend Larry. The card included three instant lottery tickets.

As he began to scratch the “Your Letters” area, Alexander got the letters A, W and M — his initials, according to a press release from the Massachusetts State Lottery. It made him feel lucky.

And then, the word that appeared on the bottom row of his winning puzzle was “HEART.” Isn’t that a blessing?

Alexander won the second-top prize for the $5,000,000 100X Cashword instant ticket game. As per CNN, players in this scratch game win more money depending on how many complete words they find.

Alexander made sure his eyes weren’t playing tricks on him.

“We double-checked it, triple-checked and quadruple-checked it,” Alexander told the Boston Herald. “It was a little bit of disbelief at first but then it settled in and it was like, wow, I can’t believe this happened, you know?”

Alexander claimed a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes.

He shared that it isn’t the first time he’s won a lottery ticket. Several years ago, Alexander won a $1,000 prize from a scratch-off ticket. Believe it or not, it was Larry who got him the winning ticket as a birthday gift.

The Quickeez Beer, Wine and Convenience Store in Carver will receive a $10,000 bonus as bonus for selling the winning ticket.

What will Alexander do with his prize money?

He said he will give some to his children, and of course, he will not forget to share some with Larry. He’ll also use some to fund a trip to the Bahamas that the family had booked before the lottery win.
