  • Mike has since taken the cat in and named the cat Ian after the hurricane.

Hurricane Ian caused a lot of damage to the areas in its path with its strong winds and rain. Even before it made landfall, some areas were already flooded from the storm surge.  Thousands were left stranded, including animals.

One video of a cat being rescued from the floodwaters is making its rounds on the internet and has already been viewed 3.4 million times on Twitter.  The hero in the video is 29-year-old Mike Ross.

In the video’s caption, Megan Cruz Scavo said, “My boyfriend saving a cat from flood waters near Bonita Beach.”

Mike was staying at his parents’ home when he spotted the cat from outside their window. Braving the flood waters, Mike carefully made his way to the cat who was sitting on top of an air conditioner unit.   He gently scooped up the frightened feline and hugged it.

Scared and wet, the cat clung to Mike.  Mike’s mom, Marybeth, can be heard saying, “Look at Michael saving the kitty. Awww!”

Viewers cannot help but praise Ross over the rescue.  One viewer wrote, “Watching him approach the cat with respect was beautiful! That poor sweetie was clearly afraid, and trusted him to care for it.”

And others cannot help but express concern over other animals who were not able to be saved.

With the video’s popularity, one viewer wrote, “I’m sorry, Megan, but he is everyone’s boyfriend now. I don’t make the rules.”

The cat has now been named Ian after the hurricane that made their meeting possible. Mike and his girlfriend are also raising funds through GoFundMe to rebuild their home but will allot half of the funds to the Naples Humane Society.

Thanks for rescuing Ian, Mike!
