A baby’s parents are extremely thankful for their dog after he alerted them to a medical emergency.

Kelly Andrews detailed the incident in a Twitter post. She said that she was initially annoyed that their dog Henry kept breaking into the nursery, which in turn kept waking up the baby.

Kelly added that the baby has been sick, so she was annoyed thinking that the dog was just adding to the stress.

It was only when the baby stopped breathing that she realized why Henry has been acting that way.

“We spent the night in the hospital. I don’t know what would have happened if he hadn’t woken her,” Kelly wrote.

It was a frightful night, but thanks to Henry’s quick alerts, the baby recovered after a night in the hospital.

Kelly added an afterthought, “We don’t deserve dogs.”

She said that so many people shared well-wishes and their own stories of their hero pets that she couldn’t keep up with her notifications. Several people praised Henry for being such a good boy and asked Kelly to give him some loving pets and scratches.

She thanked everyone and gave an update, saying that the baby’s condition has improved.

“We are home with Henry, who bravely held the fort all night even though he is scared of the dark,” she shared.

“Please know that your kind words are seen and appreciated. Thanks for sharing all the goodness. I’ve been trying to slowly respond to all the beautiful anecdotes of dogs and cats acting as angels for their humans,” she added.

Kelly also took the time to thank the staff at Connecticut Children’s, whom she described as “heroes” who “go above and beyond in their care.”
