NBC Weekend Veteran Peter Alexander Leaves Desk to Spend More Time with Family

Quick Smiles:
- Peter Alexander spent 22 years at NBC News before choosing more family time.
- He plans to spend more weekends in Washington, D.C., with his two daughters.
- Colleagues at Studio 1A gave him a warm and loving farewell.
Veteran journalist Peter Alexander is beginning a new chapter after 22 years with NBC News. He is stepping away from the anchor desk to spend more time with his daughters and improve his work-life balance.
Alexander said his job kept him away from home for hundreds of nights over the past seven years. He is eager to make the most of the time he has with his children while they are still young.
“In this limited window before my daughters lose interest in hanging out with me…I’m eager to carve out a better balance between my personal and professional lives,” Alexander said.
His colleagues praised his legacy as a talented journalist and a good man who puts family first. Co-anchor Laura Jarrett said his daughters are lucky to have such a devoted father.
“Peter, we love you and we are going to miss you. You are an extraordinary father. You only get one shot to be Ava and Emma’s dad,” Jarrett said.
Alexander reflected on his path from international reporting to the Saturday TODAY desk with gratitude. He described NBC as a happy place where he learned the true responsibility of being a storyteller.
“It’s hard to believe, but I have been part of the NBC family for longer than I’ve had my own family,” Alexander shared.
We wish Peter the very best as he enjoys more precious moments at home with his loved ones.
