Nova Scotia Shelter Finds Homes for Every Pet

Quick Smiles:

  • Every animal at Bide Awhile Animal Shelter has been adopted in record time.
  • Adoptions include senior cats and those with medical needs, who now find homes just as quickly as kittens.
  • Demand is so high, there are daily lines before the shelter opens.

At Bide Awhile Animal Shelter in Nova Scotia, animal lovers are greeted with happy news—the shelter is totally empty, thanks to an unprecedented wave of adoptions.

“It’s crazy to say but today we actually have no one available for adoption,” said Sam Cole, communications and marketing coordinator for the shelter.

This January, 30 pets already found new families, with most being adopted the day they are posted.

Unlike last year, even seniors and pets with special needs are quickly going to loving homes.

“Our adults, our seniors and our medical complications are getting adopted the same day they are posted. It has been nonstop since the doors opened this January,” Cole shared.

The shelter switched to a walk-in system after high demand led to long waitlists, creating lines of hopeful adopters at opening each day.

Bide Awhile encourages checking their website before visiting, as animals are adopted within hours of being listed.

It’s a rare but wonderful problem—empty cages mean hearts and homes are full.
