Paralyzed Cat’s Will To Walk Again Leads To Foster Mom Adopting Him [Video]

Fostering animals with special needs is a weakness for animal lover Jessica Ruf.  When her veterinary friend told her about a paralyzed kitten, she did not have to think it over and immediately took him in.

Renley the kitty’s legs were not working and the cause of the paralysis is unknown.  But from the x-rays that they did on him, the results were normal.  The vet determined that the paralysis is probably caused by a viral infection. 

The good news is that it was treatable. Renley would be able to walk! But it would take a lot of hard work both on the kitten and Ruf’s parts.

The original plan was for Jessica to foster Renley until the kitty is able to walk again before he will be put up for adoption.  But she did not count on Renley stealing her heart!  Jessica found it “just so sweet” the way that Renley drags his tiny feet as he dashes across the floor.

Both worked so hard for Renley to regain his muscle strength for him to be able to walk again.  They went through acupuncture therapy and physical therapy together. Jessica assisted him along the way with his bicycle kicks and walking.

And the reward for their hard work— Renley walking again unassisted! He is not bothered with the funny strut he makes when he walks.  In fact, it is that gait that makes him endearing.

Parting with Renley would prove to be very hard for Jessica and so she decided to keep him.  Thus, the case of another foster fails. Knowing how Renley worked so hard to walk again has taught her about determination and strength.  Life has indeed become more meaningful with Renley around.
