  • Brendon Birt was driving along Red Oaks, Iowa when he took a long turn and saw a house on fire.
  • He immediately started banging and yelling on the house’s door which woke up the residents.
  • Out came 4 Lehman siblings with the last one making it with seconds to spare before the whole house was engulfed in flames.

When Tender Lehman was in Montana for a family emergency, she was confident that her kids at home would be okay.  After all, the children’s 22-year-old brother was with them taking care of his younger siblings.  If something would happen, the 22-year-old would know what to do.

But a fire broke out in their house and thanks to a stranger, they all managed to get out of the house before it collapsed.

The stranger, Brendon Birt, happened to make a wrong turn and ended up being at the right place.  He saw the house on fire and knew that he had to act quickly as something told him there were people inside the house.

True enough, the four Lehman siblings (22, 17, 14, and 8 years old) were inside the house sleeping.  The smoke detectors did not work and it was Birt’s frantic banging and yelling that woke them up and prompted them to go out.

Footage from the house’s ring doorbell showed how the three younger siblings ran out of the house to be followed by their 22-year-old who made sure everyone made it out. Within seconds, the whole house was engulfed in flames.

Birt said, “They came out the door [and] I just felt like I just wanted to break down and cry.”

The four siblings made it out safely but unfortunately, the whole house and all their belongings turned to ashes.  And two out of five of their beloved family dogs perished.

Lehman said her kids would not have made it if not for Birt. “They’re safe because of him,” she gratefully said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Red Oak Fire Department.

A GoFundMe page set up for the family’s recovery has already raised $9,000.

For his quick action and concern, Lehman considers Birt as “family now.”
