Quick Smiles:

  • Ginny, a 5-year-old pit bull mix, spent over 1,000 days at the Lexington Humane Society waiting for her perfect pet parent to come along.
  • Despite the challenges of finding a home for Ginny due to her requirements of being the only pet in a household without children, she never gave up hope and patiently waited for her forever family to find her.
  • After three long years at the shelter, Ginny was finally adopted by Asden Davis, a dog lover who was an ideal fit for her needs. The Kentucky shelter threw Ginny a huge celebration to commemorate her long-awaited adoption, and everyone who knew her story was invited to participate.

After 1,000 days of waiting patiently for a forever home, Ginny, a 5-year-old pit bull mix, has finally found her perfect match.

Ginny arrived at the Lexington Humane Society (LHS) in December 2019 as a stray, and after no one claimed her, she was put up for adoption. Ginny waited for weeks, which turned into months, and eventually, over three long years, for a loving family to call her own.

Ginny’s special needs made it challenging to find her the perfect home, according to Meghan Hawkins, the Director of Community Engagement for LHS.

“This special girl required a family without children or other animals,” Hawkins said. She added that “Ginny has wanted to be the queen of her castle since day one.”

Ginny’s patience paid off, and she found her forever home on April 24 with Asden Davis, a dog lover who was an ideal fit for her needs.

To celebrate Ginny’s adoption, LHS threw her a “huge celebration,” which was sponsored by MetLife Pet Insurance. The event was streamed online so that Ginny’s supporters and fans could watch the momentous occasion.

Ginny has gained quite the following on social media, and her story has inspired many people to adopt their next pet.

Hawkins described Ginny as a special dog that had won the hearts of everyone at the shelter.

“Here is this dog who’s been in our care for over three years. We’ve become her family, and we think of her as one of our own. But to see how happy she was and how much she and her new dad truly love each other, it brought everyone to tears. Happy tears all around. We were sad to see her go, but oh so happy to watch her proudly leave with her new dad!”

At Ginny’s goodbye bash, she and her new dad were showered with gifts that included food, toys, treats, and gift cards.

Ginny left with her new dad, and LHS celebrated the occasion with a Facebook post.

“Ah, it’s a good morning at LHS. Ginny has left the building and will never have to live in this cage again!!!”

The post was accompanied by a photo of Ginny’s empty cage, which tugged at the heartstrings of many social media users.

Hawkins hopes that Ginny’s story inspires others to adopt their next pet and to have faith in themselves.

“Don’t give up. Don’t ever give up. We didn’t, and Ginny didn’t. She finally found her happily ever after, and we couldn’t be more thrilled!”

It’s a heartwarming story that shows the power of patience and perseverance. Ginny’s story is an inspiration to anyone looking for a furry friend to adopt, and it’s a reminder that every animal deserves a loving home.
