Quick Smiles:

  • Former officer Wade Milyard created Fresh Step Laundry to offer free laundry to the unhoused.
  • Inspired by a chance encounter, he converted a bus into a mobile laundromat using personal and donor funds.
  • Fresh Step Laundry has already washed over 2,000 pounds of clothes, with hopes to expand further soon.

Wade Milyard, once a canine officer, answered an unexpected call to serve when he learned that many unhoused individuals washed their clothes in a creek. This moving encounter sparked his journey to provide dignity and fresh starts to people in need.

Pooling resources from donors and his own savings, he launched Fresh Step Laundry—a laundromat on wheels delivering free, sanitary laundry services to his Maryland community.

Milyard’s heartfelt mission has made a visible difference one wash at a time.

His compassionate work continues to grow.

“If you’re clean, you just feel better,” shared Chris Washington, a grateful recipient.

“If having clean clothes can help them just a little bit, then my mission is fulfilled,” Milyard explained with a smile.
