Stranger Saves a Family Trapped in a Burning House [Video]
- A man is hailed a hero for saving a family trapped in a burning house.
- The man was driving to work when the fire caught his attention.
- He was able to save four kids and their mom from the fatal incident.
Ryan Pasborg of Green River, Wyoming, was late for work on a Tuesday morning in February. It was still dark when he arrived on Highway 374, and the temperature outside was below zero degrees. As he drove along the dark road, he saw that a house in Jamestown caught fire, but there weren’t any emergency cars in sight.
Ryan smelled smoke and saw flames bursting from a bedroom window. He quickly parked his truck into the driveway of the house after realizing that he was the first to respond to the situation. That’s when he noticed three tiny children huddled outside the house: a 12-year-old girl, and two boys aged 6 and 12. Ryan hurried over to them, and they told him that their mom and 4-year-old brother were still inside.
Ryan ran into the flames without hesitation. He had to crawl on his hands and knees because of the thick smoke and was blindly calling out for the mother and child. When he reached the kitchen, he stumbled upon the child and took him outdoors. Ryan then herded the four kids into his truck to keep them safe and warm while he searched the house for their mother.
Ryan crawled even deeper into the flames and smoke before finding the children’s mother who had been seriously burned and was unconscious. Ryan dragged the mother outside and performed lifesaving procedures on her until she gained consciousness. Ryan got her and her children into his truck and drove them away from the house to await the arrival of emergency personnel at the end of the driveway.
Surprisingly, Ryan’s heroic acts didn’t end there. Ryan reportedly spent hundreds of dollars on clothing and personal items for the mother and children, who are staying with family members nearby, according to a sheriff’s spokesperson.
Sheriff John Grossnickle of the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that this story is one of the most extraordinary acts of bravery he’s ever heard.
“There are no words to adequately express the magnitude of Ryan’s bravery other than he is a perfect example of what it means to be a real hero,” the Sheriff stated. “His actions speak volumes about the true content of his character, and people like Ryan are a testament to the overwhelming power and strength of community that we are so fortunate to share with one another as friends and neighbors here in Sweetwater County.”
According to authorities, the fire was started by a defective hoverboard. Thankfully, Ryan drove right by at the time of the frightening incident. This incident would probably have ended in tragedy if it hadn’t been for his brave and quick actions.
