Shea Prior puts out food for the stray cat she found in her yard a couple of months ago. The cat did not look like she trusted her at first, but the cat soon got close enough for her to feed her. She noticed that the cat was lactating days after she started feeding her. This could mean that the cat had kittens to feed hidden nearby.

“I was petting her and went to pick her up and that’s when I realized she had milk in and had been nursing some babies,” Shea said.

Shea was excited for the cat, but she is also concerned that the kittens are not doing well. She decided to try and look around for the kittens to no avail. It was then that she tried asking the cat where her kittens were.

“I started telling her to show me to her babies, and that I bet her babies were so pretty,” Shea shared the story in a post on her Facebook profile.

Shea was watering the plants in her yard the next day when the cat came running towards her.

“She came running up to me and rubbed on my leg while making her little croaking noise she does,” Shea said. “She led me over to my shed and I looked and saw a couple little fluffballs staring back at me. She flopped over on her side and started calling to them to come out and see me.”

From the looks of it, the stray cat had placed her trust in her. She knows that Shea would help keep her family safe and so she introduced her babies to her, looking proudly as showed off the five kittens.

When she got there, the kittens were too scared to come out of their hiding place until their mom coaxed them out to, probably telling them that everything was alright. From that point on, the kittens went out to greet her.

“One of the little gray ones was super brave and came up to me with his little pointy tail held up high in the air and let me pet him immediately,” Shea said.

There was no doubt in her mind by then that she wanted to help, but the first thing she needed to do is to take them inside her house safely. Shea set to work immediately after to look for homes that would care for the kittens.

Within days, she found homes for the kittens and decided to adopt their mom herself. She is now only waiting for them to grow old enough to be adopted.
