Stray Dog Who Slept On The Streets His Whole Life, Delighted To Receive A Warm Bed

  • Ezra is a stray dog who has lived all his life on the streets.
  • Even after being rescued, he was still in fear and too shy to mingle with anyone.
  • But as soon as the staff earned his trust, he became very playful and happy especially after he received his first bed.

For some, the simplest thing could be the greatest gift in the world.

A stray dog named Ezra has slept on cold cement all his life. So when he received a warm bed to lay on — the smile on his face was everything.

When Ezra came into Fairfield County Animal Shelter in September, he was too shy and afraid to even look at anyone in the eye. He prefers to be alone staring at the wall and shaking in fear. The staff was worried Ezra may not overcome his fear and pass the chance of a better life, so they decided to befriend him—through hotdogs.

“The hot dogs were the key to his heart,” rescue coordinator, Samira Yaghi, told The Dodo. “We always had hot dogs when walking by Ezra’s kennel. What started with tossing the hot dogs slowly became him taking them gently out of our hands.”

Little by little Ezra started to relax around people and let them give him rubs and pet him.

After five months since he first arrived, Ezra finally went to have a walk outside. “It’s been uphill ever since,” Samira said. “He is full of wiggles and bounce anytime he sees us approaching, eager to say ‘hello’ and eager to give us kisses.”

His walks outside have become a routine and he totally enjoys them. In fact, one of his walks has changed his life forever.

“We had several dog beds donated and they were still sitting by the entryway,” Samira shared on Facebook. “On his way out for a walk, he [lay] on the bed [and] had to be coaxed off. On their way back in from the walk, he [lay] on the bed again.”

Realizing that Ezra likes the bed, the shelter staff decided to give it to him—and his smile when receiving the gift was everything!

“Just look at how happy and proud he is to have that bed,” Samira wrote. “He sat nice and tall with a smile of gratitude on his face!”

His photo and his sweet smile have captured the hearts of the staff at S.N.A.R.R. Animal Rescue Northeast which is the shelter’s rescue partner and soon Ezra will be on his way to New York to find his forever home—of course, his beloved bed will not be left behind.
