Thrift Store Helps Homeless Man Reunite with Lost Service Dog [Video]

A thrift store in California did everything they could to help out a homeless man who was missing his service dog.

Jimmy Nicholos has been working part-time for Start Rescue Resale Store, a luxury thrift store that donates part of its proceeds to S.T.A.R.T. Rescue, a nonprofit that rescues animals from high-kill shelters.

His service dog, Boots, has since become beloved by the store staff and is considered a “shop dog.”

One day, a woman who had groomed Boots before extended a similar offer on New Year’s Eve 2020. Jimmy thought she did a good job before so he didn’t think twice about accepting.

But it took a while, so Jimmy realized that something was wrong. The woman later claimed that she took Boots to the park but he ran away.

Jimmy was devastated. He shared, “He is my baby. I got two kids I never got to raise and when that happened, he was the only thing that kept me sane. He never asked for nothing only a little love. I am at a loss for words.”

Thankfully, the staff at the thrift store helped him find his best friend.

Jimmy shared, “The START team sent out hundreds of flyers, hired a private investigator, had an attorney file a lawsuit, and worked 24 hours a day to find Boots.”

They also pitched in to offer a $10,000 reward for Boots’ return.

Two weeks went by without any lead.

It was only after Jimmy’s story reached a local TV station that they found hope. Just a few minutes after it aired, they got a phone call about Boots.

Jimmy rushed to the Van Nuy police station and was reunited with Boots!
