Woman captures photo of ‘awesome bird’ only to realize it’s not a bird

  • April Rose has been taking photos of every bird she spots after she was gifted a Canon camera.
  • One day, she noticed that a bird was taking its time on its perch outside her window, so she quickly snapped a photo.
  • It was only after taking a photo a couple of times and zooming in when she realized what it really was.

Being one with nature and spotting animals usually inspires the photographer in all of us. One woman was particularly excited when she spotted a bird calmly perched on a branch outside her window.

April Rose was gifted a Canon camera two years ago, so she has been grabbing the opportunity to take pictures of any bird she spots. She has since taken photos of blue jays, blue herons, woodpeckers, and robins.

She was relaxing in her bedroom when she saw a cool bird, which looked like a black or gray bird with fluffy feathers and a long, thin beak.

She told The Dodo, “I thought it was weird that it had been sitting there so long because I’d noticed it a few times. So I thought, ‘This is my chance.’”

She jumped out of bed to quickly snap a photo before the bird flew away.

Moments later, she realized that she didn’t need to worry about the bird flying away.

April recalled, “I took the first one, and then I zoomed in a little bit and took the second one and was like, ‘Wait a second. That’s not even a bird.’ After taking the second or the third photo, I was like, ‘It’s a leaf.’”

She just had to share her hilarious mistake with the Crap Bird Photography Facebook group.

The caption read, “I ran to grab my camera to take a picture of this awesome bird … turned out to be a leaf.”

She was surprised that her post got thousands of likes and hundreds of comments.

It turns out that many people have had similar experiences. There are just many birdwatchers and nature photographers out there that they see a good nature model everywhere!

Commenters said that the leaf did a great camouflage job, and everyone agreed that it would have been a really awesome “bird.”

April may have been duped by the bird-shaped leaf, but she wasn’t upset with the photo. She said, “I thought it was a really cool leaf, so I wasn’t disappointed in any way. To me, it still looks like a bird.”
