Seventy-six years ago today, a remarkable woman entered the world who would forever change how we experience buildings. Her extraordinary journey from Baghdad to becoming one of architecture’s most influential voices began with a simple dream of creating spaces that feel alive and free.

Known affectionately as the “Queen of Curves,” she brought an entirely fresh perspective to the built environment. Her unique approach liberated traditional geometry, transforming rigid structures into flowing, organic forms that seem to dance with light and movement. Queen Elizabeth II recognized these extraordinary contributions by bestowing a knighthood upon her.

“Liberated architectural geometry, giving it a whole new expressive identity.”

Her London-based firm continues to push boundaries, creating buildings that challenge conventional thinking while serving communities with purpose and beauty. Each project carries forward her belief that architecture should lift the human spirit and connect people to their surroundings in meaningful ways.

Her legacy stands as a beautiful reminder that visionary thinking combined with dedication can reshape entire industries. The spaces she imagined continue to bring joy and wonder to millions who encounter them daily.
