Quick Smiles:

  • Punch fell into the pond but bounced back with new monkey friends.
  • Played joyfully with same-age peers around 5 PM.
  • Devoured dinner and dashed energetically indoors.

Punch the Monkey, once abandoned at Ichikawa City Zoo in Japan, is now thriving and making friends.

Visitors and fans delight in his playful waves and growing social circle.

“Zookeeper: “It seems he fell into the pond before the 3 PM feeding. Around 5 PM, we saw him playing with young monkeys of the same age. Indoors, he ate a lot of food and ran around, being his usual energetic Punch.”

“Punch-kun, you try to drink water or splash around in it, but you’re so tiny that you can’t quite reach it and end up slipping down, huh? But I’m really impressed that you can climb back up on your own— that’s amazing! I hope you study all the rules lots while playing lots.”

“It’s just that when I can’t help but view it through the lens of human relationships, it tends to make my heart ache, but monkeys have their own monkey society, which is different from humans, right? When something negative happens to Punch-kun, I imagine there are complaints to the park staff and such, so everyone must be having a tough time. Please take care of yourselves.. Good work.”
