In a converted machine shop in southeastern San Diego, men who spent decades in prison are learning critical trade skills just weeks out of incarceration thanks to an inspirational nonprofit. Rise Up Industries has spent over a decade helping men metaphorically exchange their felony records into machinist certifications, joining a paid apprenticeship program with therapy.

The organization provides hands-on training on CNC machines and precision tools, giving participants a tangible path to steady employment. Every day, these men arrive ready to learn, their focus sharpened by the promise of a second chance.

“They come in not knowing what their future holds, and they leave with certifications, paychecks, and hope,” a Rise Up Industries staff member shared.
