Animal lovers everywhere are smiling this week as the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards announced their 2026 finalists. The annual competition spotlights forty individual images that capture the most endearing and amusing moments in the wild.

From a squirrel caught mid-somersault to a penguin waddling like it owns the shoreline, each finalist radiates light-hearted fun and showcases nature’s playful spirit. The contest, now in its tenth year, continues to prove that wildlife photography can restore faith in humanity one giggle at a time.

“Every year the images remind us how much joy animals bring into our lives,” the organizers shared in their announcement.

Photographers from around the globe submitted thousands of entries, and judges had the delightful task of narrowing the field to these feel-good shots. The finalists range from tiny field mice caught in cheeky poses to majestic birds displaying unexpected slapstick timing.

“The winners will be revealed next month, but every finalist already feels like a winner for bringing so many smiles,” a contest spokesperson added.
