João Coelho Guimarães, 45, has been living on the streets for three years without the knowledge of his family.

His relatives even believed him to be dead for 10 years! But thanks to a barbershop that gave him a free makeover, João got to reunite with his sister.

When João walked into a barbershop one day, he was only looking for a razor so he can trim his beard himself. But the staff went above and beyond: they gave him a full makeover.

The barbershop owner, Alessandro, told Bored Panda, “We decided to help him because we saw the extreme need he had. We made friends with him over the past two months. And when he asked us for a razor, we welcomed him and gave him the full experience.”

They trimmed his beard, cut his hair, let him wash up, and gave him stylish clothes and shoes. They even threw in some extra shirts.

After two hours, João looked like a brand new man.

It turns out that the shop already engages in several social aid projects.

“In this time of the pandemic, many people lost loved ones and others were left with financial difficulties. A little help is always welcome in such a difficult time,” Alessandro said.

The staff didn’t hesitate to help João and didn’t pry into why he was homeless.

Alessandro explained, “I didn’t want to get into the question of why he left home. He must have his reasons, but our intention was just to give him a little dignity at that moment.”

João was certainly filled with gratitude, and the reunion was emotional. His sister offered for him to stay home with her, but he ultimately declined.

Alessandro explained, “He said that on the streets, he feels free. That’s why he didn’t want to go home.”

Even one free haircut can go a long way! Alessandro’s barbershop has helped a lot of people, and is sure to help even more.
