Shopping is about to get a whole lot easier and more enjoyable for millions of Americans. The retail landscape continues to evolve to meet customers’ changing needs, and one beloved store chain is stepping up in a big way.

Many people opt for online shopping and pickup orders, so stores are changing to accommodate those needs and desires. Target understands shifting retail trends and wants to make sure customers continue to choose their familiar red bullseye.

In a news release, the company announced new stores and remodels that will make shopping easier and more convenient while enabling same-day fulfillment. Target hopes these changes will encourage more shoppers to experience the joy of stress-free retail therapy.

“These investments are all about making Target an even easier, more inspiring, and friendly place to shop,” Laurie Mahowald, senior vice president, Target Properties, shared.

“We’re evolving our stores in ways that reflect how guests shop today — from more intuitive layouts to expanded assortments — while also strengthening the role our stores play in fulfillment and our long-term growth.”

The changes mark Target’s first major redesign in more than a decade, and they’re pulling out all the stops. According to Target, the updates include expanded grocery departments with dry, fresh, and frozen selections that will make meal planning a breeze.

Target will modernize store fixtures and incorporate contemporary décor that makes browsing feel fresh and exciting. New merchandising focuses on engaging customers in ways that spark joy and inspiration during every visit.

Customers will notice improvements to Order Pickup, Drive Up, and Exchanges & Returns, along with updated checkout systems designed to get you in and out quickly. Modern amenities will be included in updated restrooms and designated nursing spaces—a thoughtful touch for families.

Select stores will have natural refrigeration systems, more efficient lighting, and HVAC systems that not only help reduce emissions and energy costs but also create a more comfortable shopping environment. It’s good for the planet and good for shoppers—a true win-win.

Target also plans to open six new locations on May 17, 2026. These stores will bring the best of Target’s customer-first changes to brand-new communities, spreading the retail happiness far and wide.
