  • Luna is a Persian and Amur leopard mix, often referred to as a black panther.
  • She was rejected by her mom when she was just a cub, so she was handed over to a woman who had experience rehabilitating wild cats.
  • She has since stayed with her human mother, and is now happily living with a dog sibling.

Meet Luna, the black panther who calls a human and a dog her family.

Luna is a Persian and Amur leopard mix, often referred to as a black panther.

Seven days after Luna was born, her mom, who was part of a traveling zoo, rejected her for unknown reasons.

Since the zoo has no resources to care for a motherless newborn, they reached out to a woman who had experience rehabilitating wild cats.

It was that woman who ended up becoming 8-week-old Luna’s new mom.

The woman, who chose to remain anonymous, had to nurse Luna around the clock for many months. Thanks to her care, Luna is now healthy and fully grown. She has even become an online celebrity!

While Luna currently lives indoors, she also loves running around outside, especially in the snow. So her family plans to build her an outdoor enclosure to provide her with more space to move around.

Luna also has a sibling BFF now.

Weeks after her arrival in her new home, her human mom introduced her to a new friend and sister, Venza the Rottweiler.

Their mom shared, “Venza in fact thought that Luna was her cub. As soon as the dog saw the panther she started licking her fur, they bonded instantly.”

While some people pointed out that Luna may be better off in a regular zoo, her human mom assured everyone that the big cat is happier at home.

“She is more than a rescued pet for me,” her mom shared. “She is the part of my heart.”

Luna’s mom added that she has a lot of friends who own private, good zoos that can readily accommodate Luna. But for now, she wants to “find the way to keep her with us, and to create conditions that she is happy.”

Luna is definitely loved and well-taken care of by her new family, and she is more than happy!

Many might think that a wild animal belongs in the wild, but Luna has settled in so well with her new family that others believe she’s a genuine house panther!
