Bride’s Touching Hospital Wedding Honors Her Dad

Grace Benway and Thomas Decourcey planned to wed in Colorado, but when Grace’s father’s health declined, quick action brought their celebration to him instead.

Two years after a pancreatic cancer diagnosis, Dan Benway’s fight inspired his family and caregivers to help arrange a heartfelt hospital wedding in just one day.

“He did really want to make it to Colorado, but this week, he has just been in a decline,” Grace shared. She praised the nursing staff, saying they “were nice enough to kind of help us plan something.”

The ceremony took place at Northwest Community Hospital, where Dan has been receiving treatment. Grace described her father as incredible: “He’s been fighting so much. He’s incredible. It speaks to him and who he is as a person.”

The impromptu plan allowed Dan to walk his daughter down the aisle in a joyful moment surrounded by family, friends, and hospital staff.

“I couldn’t be more blessed at all,” Dan said.

Dan, dressed in a suit and sunglasses, smiled as he shared a special walk and a hug with Grace, creating memories that will last forever.

Reflecting afterward, Grace said, “I think it was something we both knew was a possibility and we were just excited to be able to do something with him. It means a lot to him.”

Dan also shared his happiness for the couple, beaming, “He’s going to be a great man for her.”

“They’re going to be a great couple. I couldn’t ask for anyone better.”
