  • Mariachi-playing family loses 40% of income and face eviction from inability to pay rent for 8 months.
  • Family friend sets up GoFundMe and rallies the community to raise funds for the family.
  • Fund has reached $64,000 more than enough to pay the rent and tide them through the next months.

The coronavirus pandemic has disrupted the lives and economies of the world.  People have lost jobs. Companies have closed. The COVID-19 lockdowns and social distancing specifications have hit the live music entertainment industry bad.

The mariachi-playing Cielito Lindo Family Music group took a direct hit with a 40% reduction in their income.  They were unable to pay their bills and 8 months behind on their rent. But thanks to a moratorium on evictions, they managed to stay home through January 2021.  But sad to say by month end, they have to leave their residence or pay the $18,000 that they owe.

Luckily, one of their family friends, Robert Farster, learned of their plight and set up a GoFundMe to raise funds for the Luceros.

Farster wrote, “After generously spreading joy and lifting people up through their music for years now, the family — which has been likened to the von Trapps — is left needing help.”

Farster added that part of Luceros’ identity was giving back to their community and he’s appealing for the community to give what they can to the family.

Farster’s target was to raise $50,000.  But in just three days, the goal was met and even more!  The fund has reached $64,000!  The family can now pay their rent and still have some for their needs in the coming months.

To add to that, the family has also been requested for paid virtual performances.  The community really pulled through for the Luceros!

To which the family patriarch, Juan wrote on Facebook, “Thank you for helping us during this crazy time in history! We hope you are all healthy and well during these trying times. We feel the LOVE from you and plan to share a Thank You performance with you all soon!”

The community showed that when everybody pitches in, much is accomplished.
