Couple Celebrate Wedding at Remarkable Crash Site

Five years ago, Kirsty Southern rushed to help after spotting Ryan McLeod trapped beneath a vehicle. She comforted him for forty minutes until emergency services could reach the scene.

“From where the swimming pool was I glanced up and saw this man go under a car,” Southern said.

Despite his painful injuries, Kirsty found herself checking if Ryan was married while reassuring him everything would be okay. Ryan remembers, “I was run over twice, but I only remember being pinned down and banging.”

The accident left him needing surgery and ongoing physiotherapy, but he says meeting his wife made it all worthwhile. Months after the accident, Ryan posted on Facebook asking witnesses to come forward, and Kirsty responded to his message.

“I had a little Facebook look as I knew his name afterwards. I didn’t message him, just a look,” Kirsty recalled.

The couple soon began dating during lockdown and enjoyed four happy years together before Ryan proposed during a special weekend. “Married life is like living in a cosy love story. We’re in a beautiful bubble together, and it’s absolute bliss,” Kirsty shared.

On their wedding day, they returned to the crosswalk where it all began, capturing joyful photos at the site that changed their lives.
