Quick Smiles:

  • Novo Nordisk lowers prices for select Ozempic and Wegovy doses, helping more people afford medication.
  • New offers provide two months of lowest-dose GLP-1 drugs at $199 per month, then $349 monthly.
  • Experts hail the move as expanding access and hope for patients who previously found costs out of reach.

Novo Nordisk is making it easier for people paying out of pocket to access select doses of its popular GLP-1 weight loss medications. For a limited time, individuals with prescriptions can purchase the two lowest doses of Ozempic and Wegovy for $199 per month for two months, then $349 per month after, by registering on the official websites.

Dave Moore, Novo Nordisk’s executive vice president of U.S. operations, shared:

“The US healthcare system is complex, with different types of insurance and various ways for patients to obtain their medicines. Our new savings offers provide immediate impact, bringing forward greater cost savings for those who are currently without coverage or choose to self-pay.”

With list prices traditionally hovering around $1,000 monthly, this new discount follows similar moves, such as collaborations with Costco and pharmacy chains, to make the drugs more affordable.

GLP-1 medications not only aid weight loss but have also been associated with improved heart health and reduced cancer mortality, driving high demand. According to research, nearly 1 in 5 U.S. adults have used a GLP-1 medication, with a significant portion paying the full price despite having insurance.

Dr. Shauna Levy, medical director of the Tulane Weight Loss Center, called the news “great” for expanding patient options and affordability.

“If $500 per month is too expensive, then there’s going to be a new category of patients that $350 a month is more affordable.”

While some experts note that the lowest monthly rates may spark interest before rising costs return, these new deals nonetheless extend hope to many. Even as insurance and employer coverage continues to evolve, bringing prices down could inspire more people to seek the help they need for their health journeys.
