  • Koda the dog was diagnosed with intestinal cancer and given only 12 months to live.
  • During chemotherapy, he lost a lot of weight because he refused to eat anything.
  • His mom put him on a pumpkin diet which his mom credits for miraculously healing him from his cancer.

Pumpkins are extremely popular as a Halloween staple whether as a pie or as a décor.  But who would have thought that it could help one dog recover from an aggressive and rare form of cancer?

Martha Haslett believes that gobbling cans of pumpkin has helped her dog Koda miraculously be in remission from cancer.

Back in October 2019 when the veterinarian diagnosed Koda with intestinal cancer and had only 12 months to live, Martha was devastated.

But they had to do everything in order not to lose their beloved dog.  And so, Koda immediately started chemotherapy which made him lose his appetite and thus, weight.  Koda went from 23 pounds to just 16.  They had to find a way to make him eat more.

Martha recalled, “We can’t remember where we got the idea but one of his prescription dog foods made him constipated and we always knew that pumpkins were good for dogs, so we started adding a scoop to his meals three times a day.”

Pumpkins are rich in Vitamins A and C which aid in boosting the immune system.

To their relief, Koda devoured the pumpkin. And so, they stocked up on canned pumpkins.

By September, when oncologists tested Koda, cancer had miraculously disappeared!

Haslett said, “The oncologist did the scan and was shocked because it’s an incredibly rare, aggressive form of cancer–and chemotherapy is usually not effective.”

Thanks to a pumpkin diet, Koda is cancer-free!  What a recovery!

“My daughter was there and we all had tears in our eyes. It was more than I ever could have hoped for.”

For Martha, it was more than they could ever hope for.   And they are definitely keeping the pumpkin in Koda’s diet for as long as he lives.

We wish you a longer life, Koda!
