  • Frodo loves lounging in the sun beside the pool, but as a 20-year-old senior cat, he has to hobble down the stairs to get there.
  • So his dad, YouTuber Liam Thompson, decided to build an elevator to make his senior cat’s life easier.
  • After days of measuring, sawing, sanding, and putting his build together, the cat elevator’s maiden voyage was a success.

Meet Frodo. The senior cat is already 20 years old, which, according to his dad, is “like Dumbledore/Gandalf territory.” He loves lounging in the sun, particularly by the pool.

But he needs to go down some stairs to get to his favorite lounging spot. His dad, Liam Thompson, said that Frodo still manages to go down the stairs, but he “hobbles” most of the time. So to make his life easier, Liam decided to build him an elevator!

Liam is no stranger to building things, as evidenced by his YouTube channel, where the New Zealand-based star has over 1.86 million subscribers.

He sawed down pieces of plywood, added sliding door rails and an electric hoist, and put them all together. After conducting a safety test using a stuffed toy, he polished his creation and made the finishing touches.

After several days of measuring, sawing, sanding, and painting, his build was finished.

As he placed a sleepy-looking Frodo on the elevator, he asked him, “Are you ready to go downstairs without moving a muscle?” He then added jokingly, “I hope so because it took me four days.”

Frodo made it safely down the stairs, and he easily made it to his favorite resting spot. When he felt it was time to go back inside, Liam was ready to assist him back up the elevator.

Liam called the whole experience “the greatest day” of his life. You can see that he is “absolutely fizzing” over his creation!

His nifty contraption definitely makes his beloved senior cat’s life easier.
