Family Who Lost Their Dad To Covid-19 Receives $50,000 from Taylor Swift and Mom

  • Theodis Ray Charles died of Covid-19 last December, leaving behind his wife and 5 daughters.
  • A good friend set up a GoFundMe to help provide financial relief to the family.
  • Taylor Swift and her mom Andrea donated $50,000 to the family.

One week before Christmas, Theodis Ray Quarles succumbed to COVID-19, leaving behind his wife Vicki and their five daughters: Alyssa, Anaya, Asia, Allie, and Aryah.

“When the paramedics arrived at the Quarles’ home to transport Theodis to the hospital for breathing difficulties, Vicki wasn’t allowed to accompany her husband due to quarantine restrictions. Little did she know that this would be her final engagement with her [husband and] best friend. She later received a call from the hospital that Theodis had [succumbed] to this awful virus,” a good friend, DeQuanda Smith, wrote of Quarles’ death.

In order to help Vicki and her family, DeQuanda Smith organized a GoFundMe fundraiser “to offer financial relief and [reduce their family’s] worry from things associated with basic immediate needs as well as for their continued growth, goals and [aspirations].”

She added that the Quarles girls will miss him at breakfast, proms, plays, recitals, college acceptances, entries … and ultimately their weddings. But he would be proud when his girls get to be a doctor, entrepreneur, teacher, nurse, or whatever they do to make their mark in the world.

Smith’s goal was to raise $50,000.

After Smith had already crowdsourced $11,268 for the family, Grammy-winner Taylor Swift and her mom Andrea jointly donated the $50,000 goal for Vicki! The Swift duo’s $50,000 brought the funds to $61,268, surpassing Smith’s goal.

It seems that Swift is not only a winner on the Grammy stage but also in life for her giving nature. She also made history as her album Folklore made her the first woman to win the album of the year award thrice.

Thank you, DeQuanda Smith, and Taylor and Andrea Swift.
