Fans Delight in Nobody Wants This Casting

The heartwarming romance in Netflix’s hit “Nobody Wants This” might have looked very different.

Originally, creator Erin Foster envisioned comedian Nick Kroll as Rabbi Noah, but the timing didn’t work for him.

Foster reflected

“There was just something validating to me about a comedian (like Kroll) as the lead that felt like, ‘Oh, I’m making a real comedy,’”

Nick Kroll later shared

“Literally, it was dead in the middle of when we were having our baby. And so I just think, there were a lot of elements that went into it.”

After Kroll declined, Kristen Bell suggested Adam Brody for the role, even creating a reel to highlight their chemistry.

Bell joked

“I was like, ‘Guys, you’re going to need an ice pack while you watch these scenes.”

Foster was impressed and sent Brody a script. Despite lingering questions about the show’s direction, Brody was drawn to the project.

“I was like, ‘Well, f— it,’” said Brody. “‘I really like her, I like this episode, and I love Kristen and it’s Netflix and there are a lot of reasons to just roll the dice.’”

Early filming confirmed the magic between Brody and Bell, to Brody’s surprise.

“There was an energy to it, a sort of sexiness that I wasn’t sure about as we were making it,” he recalled.

The series premiered on September 28, 2024, quickly capturing hearts and climbing into Netflix’s Top 10 list in 89 countries.

Season two, arriving October 23, promises even more charming moments.

Bell celebrated the show’s spirit:

“Erin said, ‘We’re going to give the people what they want,’ and I thought that was very cool.”
