French Police Make Progress in Louvre Jewel Heist

French authorities are making significant strides in solving the high-profile Louvre jewel robbery, in which more than $100 million worth of precious gems were stolen in a bold daytime theft.

Two men, both with prior jewel theft records, have been arrested after DNA evidence linked them to the crime, offering new hope for the return of the stolen treasures.

One suspect was apprehended at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport just before boarding a flight, while the other was arrested in Aubervilliers, close to the museum.

The suspects are reportedly not cooperating with police, leaving the whereabouts of the eight missing crown jewels a mystery.

Ronde told NBC News.

“We’re dealing with experienced criminals who are known to the police and the justice system.”

The French Brigade For The Repression of Banditry (BRB), a specialized police unit with a strong track record, is spearheading the investigation.

Their determined efforts are reminiscent of their previous success recovering high-profile stolen jewelry.

Robert Wittman, an expert in art crime, praised the BRB’s skill and expects more progress soon.

“The BRB is a great group,” Wittman said.

“They’ve done great investigations, and they’re bloodhounds. They’re dogged, so I think that there’s going to be more arrests quickly.”

Although none of the jewels have been recovered, officials remain optimistic that they may still be hidden in Paris since the suspects were unable to leave the country.

Louvre tour guide Amy Huntington highlighted their significance, saying:

“These are symbols of France. They’re above value because they’re parts of history.”

“But once you start taking them apart, that’s when they have actual value.”

French police are moving quickly to find the missing jewels and dismantle the criminal network behind the heist, offering hope that these historic treasures will return home soon.
