A quiet afternoon in East Bethel, Minnesota, turned dramatic when Kari Thorp noticed flames beneath a school bus as it dropped off her daughter. Without a moment’s delay, she alerted bus driver Rick Gratton, and together they quickly got every child off the bus to safety.

“Kids were crying. Kids were scared and freaking out,” Thorp recalled. “It was quite emotional and kind of frantic.”

Thanks to their teamwork and bravery, all students and adults were unharmed, even though the bus and some belongings were lost to the flames.
