Kind-Hearted 11-Year-Old Asks For Food Bank Donations Instead of Gifts On His Birthday

  • Isaac Winfield started a food bank in his family’s greenhouse during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns to answer the need for food of his hungry neighbors.
  • In time, it became “Friends of Isaac Food Bank” operating 24 hours to cater to the needs of an increasing number of people.
  • For his 11th birthday, Isaac has asked for food donations instead of gifts, and for the winter season, donations of boots, warm clothes, and pet food.

Claire Winfield‘s son Isaac has always been very kind-hearted.  The proud mom says, “Anything he comes across he always wants to stop and help. I’m very blessed.”

So, it is no wonder that when Isaac found out during the COVID lockdowns that there were no food bank services in his school, he gathered donations of toiletries, food, and other essentials.  Their family’s greenhouse became a makeshift bank for all the donations.

Since 2020, the makeshift park has become a shed in the yard and grown into a “Friends of Isaac Food Bank” and a 24-hour operation where anyone can avail of help.  Global inflation has increased the number of people needing more help.

Isaac strives to provide more donations to more people and so even with his birthday coming up, he refuses to accept gifts but asks for food bank donations.

With the winter months, the Winfields anticipated that the need for food and supplies would spike. This time, Isaac asked for donations of warm clothing, boots and pet food.

From a simple desire to provide groceries during the pandemic, Isaac’s food bank now partners with a charity called Building Bridges and even has corporate sponsors! YouTube celebrity Mark McCann even donated a van for them.

Isaac has also won a local business award which has given his confidence a boost.

And with a planned second food bank in the works, we certainly wish you all the best Isaac!
