Scout Haskel, a spirited 6-year-old from Montclair, surprised her family during the holidays with a fully illustrated, homemade book detailing a child’s misadventures with red wine.

Her mother, Bethany Hall, who is a comedy writer, explained, “We were visiting my parents, and every night my mom and I have a glass of wine and gossip. She’d been off on her own with a bunch of cousins, running around, asking for spelling help here and there. Then she just presented it to us. We were on the floor laughing.”

Scout’s book, “The Kid Who Drank Wine,” captured the attention of social media after Hall shared a video reading it aloud, librarian-style.

In the story, a character named Scout sneaks wine at a party and confesses, “I don’t feel good, mommy,” bringing laughter to family and viewers alike.

Online, people applauded Scout’s storytelling and suggested her writing had a bright future, with many calling for a sequel—and Scout didn’t disappoint, penning “The Kid Who Drank Coffee” the very next day.
