  • A video of a kitty with misaligned teeth has captured the hearts of other pet owners and users on TikTok.
  • The owner asked for help on what was happening with the kitty’s teeth as it just started growing.
  • The misalignment can be a congenital defect or caused by an injury and if it interferes with the kitty’s health, then it can be treated.

Having misaligned teeth can be such a problem when growing up.  You can be subjected to bullying.  Some find it cute, some find it funny, but definitely, it calls attention. Thankfully, there are ways to correct such disorders.

An earlier post explained that the adorable kitty didn’t grow his baby teeth until he was five months old.

There are many reasons for misaligned teeth in cats, according to Wag Walking. When they are born, kitties are toothless and have long upper jaws for easier nursing.  But the jaw grows in proper proportion as the kitties mature.

When the jaw or the teeth do not grow at their normal rate, misalignment happens. It can be caused by a failure to lose the baby teeth, congenital or hereditary defects, injury to the jaw or face, poor or inappropriate nutrition, and growth of too many adult teeth.

Symptoms of misalignment include unexplained wounds in the mouth, exposed canines, lopsided mouth, chewing difficulties and drooling.

When it does not cause difficulties or issues for the cat, the VCA Animal Hospitals say it is unethical to “correct” it for aesthetic purposes.

However, when it does create issues for your cat, there are three treatment options: tooth movement, extraction for space provision and crown reduction and restoration.
