Kyrgyzstan Lights Up With Its First Solar Plant

Kyrgyzstan inaugurated its first solar plant on Christmas Eve, bringing clean power to a bustling region while making a significant environmental impact.

This launch marks the beginning of a larger clean energy initiative, with forthcoming solar and wind projects set to supply 5 gigawatts of sustainable energy in the future.

The nation already leans heavily on hydropower for up to 84% of its electricity, though fossil fuel use fluctuates seasonally when river flows decrease.

President Sadyr Japarov shared his vision at the opening, stating:

“The opening of the solar power plant marks the beginning of an important stage in strengthening our country’s energy independence and developing renewable energy sources.”

He added:

“We now recognize that without the active development of renewables, it is impossible to fully ensure stable electricity supplies for both the population and economic sectors.”

The plant is located about 60 miles east of Bishkek, in the Kemin district, where rising urban needs are now sustainably supported thanks to this project.
