Quick Smiles:

  • A Labrador named Oakley gets a new puppy sibling and the initial meeting is quite dramatic.
  • Despite the rocky start, Oakley and the puppy quickly become inseparable friends.
  • The video of their introduction goes viral, amassing millions of views and likes on TikTok.

A couple recently decided to surprise their adult Labrador, Oakley, with a new little puppy companion. However, the initial meeting didn’t go as smoothly as they had hoped.

In a TikTok video shared in August under the username @oakley.and.chipper, the new puppy is seen being carried through the door. Oakley, their black Labrador, immediately starts sniffing the new arrival and quickly becomes agitated.

Oakley circles around his owner, trying to grab the puppy with his paws, even growling a bit as his owner attempts to calm him down.

“POV: getting your lad his own puppy, gone wrong,” reads the overlay text on the clip.

Although Oakley had a hard time accepting his new little brother initially, this phase didn’t last long. Soon, the two dogs became the best of friends.

“They’re inseparable now! Took a few days to get used to not being the only child,” reads a caption shared along with the video.

As viewers questioned the method used to introduce the puppy, the poster clarified in the comments section:

“They met briefly outside. That is why Oakley is partially excited and cautious, first time inside.”

“Oakley is the nicest/biggest baby ever and they’re besties now, they really love each other.”

A good introduction lays the foundation for peaceful cohabitation between two dogs. Experts suggest taking your time with the process and ensuring it is fully completed before letting the two dogs interact unsupervised.

It’s best to keep the dogs separated at first and then gradually introduce them. Short walks with both dogs on a leash held by different people can help, and letting them off leash together in a fenced area if they seem ready is also recommended.

The older dog should have a place to be alone, and treats should be given for every positive interaction with the puppy to reinforce good behavior.
