Lions and Tigers Relocated to US Sanctuaries

Quick Smiles:
- Three lions and five tigers found forever homes in US sanctuaries.
- International cooperation ensured a safe, historic journey for the big cats.
- The rescue sets a new standard for wildlife conservation in Honduras.
For the first time in Honduras, eight majestic big cats were safely relocated to accredited wildlife sanctuaries in the United States.
Five tigers journeyed to Carolina Tiger Rescue, while three lions—Cyrus, Zephora, and Juancito—settled into their new home at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Sanctuary in Arkansas.
These resilient lions traversed sea, sky, and highways, accompanied at every stage by dedicated caretakers and officials maintaining international and US regulations.
Each lion now enjoys a spacious, species-appropriate habitat carefully designed for their well-being.
“This mission represents everything sanctuary work stands for: international cooperation, compassion, and a future where rescued animals are given the lives they deserve,” said Scott Smith, TCWR vice-president.
The successful rescue owed much to the commitment of Leo Lahijani of Little French Key Resort, whose efforts helped secure a brighter future for the animals.
“This rescue has been years in the making, driven by a deep responsibility to secure the best possible future for these animals,” shared Mr. Lahijani.
Their journey was supported by Honduran authorities, international wildlife organizations, veterinary experts, and logistics teams who ensured each animal’s safety.
Officials in Honduras view this operation as a national milestone and a model for responsible wildlife protection.
For Cyrus, Zephora, and Juancito, this is a new life filled with security and care.
