Quick Smiles:

  • Elizabeth Simms recognized unusual symptoms and sought urgent care during her pregnancy.
  • Lifesaving medical intervention helped her recover from a dangerous pulmonary embolism.
  • A few weeks later, she safely delivered a healthy baby boy.

Elizabeth Simms, a mom from Kentucky, acted quickly when she experienced alarming symptoms while 31 weeks pregnant. She describes feeling an intense tightness around her chest and a pounding heart, prompting her husband to rush her to the hospital.

“It was so tight and my heart was pounding,” she recalls. “I started shaking.”

Doctors soon discovered that Simms faced a life-threatening pulmonary embolism, where blood clots blocked critical arteries in her lungs. An advanced procedure successfully removed the clots, allowing her to breathe more easily almost immediately.

She soon returned home after a three-day hospital stay and, a few weeks later, safely gave birth to her son just as planned.

Simms is now sharing her story to encourage others to listen to their bodies and seek help if something doesn’t feel right, especially during pregnancy. Recognizing early signs of a pulmonary embolism, such as shortness of breath, chest discomfort, or leg swelling, can be lifesaving.

Her experience is a reminder of the importance of acting quickly and supporting loved ones when medical emergencies arise.

If you enjoyed this uplifting moment, remember to cherish and share those stories of hope and resilience!
