New Tech Lets All Cricket Fans Join the Action
Quick Smiles:
- New headsets stream live cricket for visually impaired fans
- Microchip implants help the blind read again
- Lord’s deploys inclusive navigation for all visitors
Visually impaired cricket fans are now experiencing matches like never before, thanks to innovative headsets that stream live footage directly to the working part of their retina at Edgbaston Stadium.
Nine cricket fans took part in this groundbreaking trial, using technology designed by GiveVision that brings the game’s excitement in real time and vivid detail.
“Helping visually impaired cricket fans to feel more included and experience the atmosphere of a stadium fixture live for the first time was truly moving,” said Edgbaston’s safeguarding and compliance manager, Thomas Cunningham Smith.
Elsewhere, scientists have enabled people with untreatable age-related macular degeneration to read again by implanting microchips paired with special video glasses, vastly improving their quality of life.
Lord’s Cricket Ground in London is now the first sports venue globally to offer a personal navigation system for blind, partially sighted, and disabled fans, guiding them smoothly to seats and amenities via a dedicated app.
This uplifting wave of accessibility innovation is spreading fast, promising even more venues and sports fans a chance to enjoy live experiences together.
Every new breakthrough means greater inclusion and more unforgettable moments shared among fans. Stay tuned for more positive change in the world of sports!
